This species has long been regarded as edible, although there have been recent reports of it making some people sick. We have eaten it on several occasions with no problem. The cap of this species is almost indistinguishable from the (also edible) Pluteus cervinus (Fawn Mushroom), but the free gills and pink spore print of latter can distinguish the two.
