Fungi Resources

Recommended Websites:

The Mushroom Expert by Michael Kuo
This site is unrivaled in its comprehensive coverage of fungi, providing detailed descriptions of over 700 species as well as user-friendly taxonomic keys.
Fungi Growing on Wood by Gary Emberger
This site offers neatly organized and very informative descriptions and photos of many fungi, including many species we have found little information on elsewhere.
Tom Volk's Fungi
Based in Wisconsin, Volk offers unique "local" insight and provides detailed and entertaining information on many species, particularly in the "Fungus of the Month" pages.
Index Fungorum
This site provides recently published fungal nomenclature at the species level and below. Since fungal classification and nomenclature are changing every day, we use this site to check if a Genus species name published in field guides is still the current name. If a name has changed, then the new name is provided along with a list of outdated synonyms. Fun, fun!
